Lake Elkhorn Middle School Media Centers
Mission Statement
The Lake Elkhorn Media Center is dedicated to supporting the instructional program provided by the Howard County School System and Cradlerock School, and to serve as support to the students and teachers of the school community. The Media Center's purpose and philosophy is to provide the Lake Elkhorn Middle School with a collection of valuable resources that enhance achievement and cultural enrichment for the students and community.
The present collection is continually evolving and adjusting to the academic, multicultural needs and the implementation of modern technology to our students and community; furthermore, the Media Center is dedicated to assisting students to function viably in the Twenty first Century by developing students' skills in all the academic, technological and social arenas.
Philosophy
The Media Center believes that each student's school experiences should reflect the mastery of the prescribed and tested curriculum, and the development of social skills that positively impact life-long learning and citizenship. The Media Center has two purposes:
to provide a balanced collection of varied media to support and implement the curriculum
to provide current, and updated materials for personal interests and recreational use
Materials Policy
Grades 6 - 8
1. Students may check-out three books for three weeks.
2. Materials may be renewed.
3. Magazines may be borrowed, but not the current month.
4. Reference materials may be borrowed over night.
5. Pupils with overdue materials may not borrow additional resources until their record has been cleared.
6. Students will be asked to pay for materials that are lost or damaged

Acceptable Use Policy
Computer instruction is a requirement for all Howard County Public School students, to ensure that our valuable equipment continues to operate for the benefit of all, review, the Code of Ethics for computer use at Lake Elkhorn Middles School. No student will be allowed to access the school's computers without agreeing to this policy.
